Musgrove defeated the New York Mets in his final start before the All-Star break. He allowed three hits without allowing a run in six innings.
Musgrove, 30, was a first-round draft pick in 2011 and appeared in three career games against Toronto, where he was traded to the Houston Astros a year later, going 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA. 1.46 is recorded.
Dalton Vertho (4-for-11) and Brandon Belt (4-for-16) each hit a home run off Musgrove.
Right-hander Alec Manoa (2-7, 5.91) will start in Toronto, looking to follow up on his strong start against the Detroit Tigers on July 7. He allowed 1 run, 5 hits, no walks, and 8 strikeouts. First win since April 5th.
It was Manoa’s first major league appearance since he allowed six runs and just one out against the Astros on June 5. Manoa, a 2022 All-Star, gave up 11 points in two 2/3 innings in his rookie-level game on June 27 after relegation.
“We’ve been talking about the pace of his delivery and it’s exactly where it should be at the moment,” Toronto manager John Schneider told reporters on Sunday. “We’re just making sure it stays there. It’s amazing what it can do a little further away.”
