The Rainforest Alliance Certified Chocolate Producer wants you to take inspiration from the Yowie characters (Rumble, Boof, Crag, Diti, Knapp, Squish) and the baby animals from Series 8.
“We asked our fans what kind of endangered animals they would most like to collect and learn about, and the answer was clear. That’s why this latest series features baby endangered animals from around the world.”Yowie Chief Marketing Officer Cynthia Thayer said of the May launch:
“The cuteness factor is extraordinary.”
Each yowie is responsible for protecting a different habitat and the animals that live there.
- Rumble is the cousin of the red kangaroo, the keeper of the plains and deserts.
- Cragg are part alligators and guardians of swamps, marshes, and backwaters.
- Squish is part platypus, duck, and beaver, and is the guardian of waterways.
- Diti isn’t quite a wombat, but it’s still a resolute and dramatic protector of forest and grassland habitats.
- Boof is a member of the bandicoot and watches over rainforests and mountains.
- Naps…just naps, guardians of treetops and skies.

What is Yowi?
Yowie’s is Australia’s leading chocolate and was a bestseller in the 1990s and early 2000s, selling 65 million units a year at its peak.
Hollow chocolate shells encase small toys in amazing treats made with sustainably sourced ingredients without GMOs, palm oil, gluten or nuts.
‘Yowie’ is Australia’s outback equivalent of the Yankee Sasquatch and Bigfoot, and like this mythical creature, the company is passionate about bringing to light the plight of endangered and endangered fauna. Each Yowi comes with a collectible figure of an endangered animal and a leaflet to help children learn all about endangered animals, their habitats and why it’s important to protect them.
The Yowie was first manufactured by Cadbury in Australia in 1995 under license from Kidcorp. Chocolate was discontinued in 2005 after negotiations between Cadbury and creators Bryce Courtenay and Jeff Pike to expand distribution fell apart. (Courtney and Pike have written six Yowie Power books together, each following a different Yowie character.) The company was acquired by Perth-based Yowie Group in 2012, and in 2014 Surprise in Chocolate finally hit U.S. supermarket shelves. It also reappeared in the Australian and New Zealand markets in 2017.
